Sunshine: Do your team members stick around?
Crystal: Welcome, For the Love of Business. I’m Crystal.
Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.
Wow. Getting your team members to stick around. I’ve been hearing a lot of people calling in, saying that they need help hiring. And nobody wants to work.
Crystal: Yup. You know, it’s an employee market right now.
Sunshine: Wow. So, how do you, you know, entice them to stick around and do a good job? I mean, like just even going to work every single day but getting them to come in– your employees come in and then on top of it, do a good job. I mean, how– Come on Coach Crystal, tell us what to do?
Crystal: Well, first before we go into the strategies let’s back up a little bit. Because losing team members is very costly. Not only money wise but time wise.
Sunshine: Because you have to retrain a new person.
Crystal: Yes. And when you are retraining that new person, remember they are not fully trained so their productivity is going to be lower, so profits will be lower.
Sunshine: And the team has to get used to a new person?
Crystal: Yes. To fit into the culture and get to know other team members as well.
Sunshine: All right. So, that was a lot. So, please tell us how can we get team members to stick around longer?
Crystal: Proven ways to increase your team retention, number one, be friendly with your employees but not friends. Hold that boundary, okay? Number two, small surprises go a long way. For example, I would bring, you know, fudge pops to my team members on a hot day. And they were so appreciative. And felt taken care of. Number three, listen to your team and appreciate them.
Sunshine: So, showing your team members that you care about them goes a long way?
Crystal: Yes, it does. Because remember people don’t stay solely based on money. They stay based on how they feel about the rest of the team and their boss.
Sunshine: What’s your number one takeaway from today’s video? Leave us a comment. And thanks for watching.
