Sunshine: Do you catch yourself judging others?
Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business, I’m Crystal.
Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.
Stop judging others. This is a great topic because I see an awful lot of judging online. I see it in person.
Crystal: Yep.
Sunshine: I see it all over the place. And I mean, I don’t even think that people realize that they’re doing it. So, I mean, what would the definition of judging somebody actually be though?
Crystal: Right.
Sunshine: It’s more of a feeling for me, in actual words in my head.
Crystal: So, basically, it’s expressing a bad opinion about someone else’s behavior that makes you feel more superior over that individual.
Sunshine: That’s not good.
Crystal: No, it’s not, it’s actually very negative and destructive. And remember, people can be judging themselves as well.
Sunshine: That’s even worse, to beat yourself down. And I don’t like it. So, you know, as we do with these videos, you always give us some easy, actionable items to get us out of this way of thinking. But before you do that, can you tell us real quick like how to identify when we’re doing this?
Crystal: Well, listen to the words coming out of your mouth. Listen to the words in your mind, that you’re thinking about. And if they’re not positive, and they reflect badly on someone else, then you’re judging.
Sunshine: All right. How do we stop that?
Crystal: Three ways to stop judging. Number one, express empathy for people, instead of a sympathy. Because when you are sympathize, you put yourself above them. When you do empathy, you’re on the same level. Number two, reframe the judgment. So, turn it into a positive and correct it. Number three, practice self-love and compassion for yourself. And you know, it takes a while to get out of that judgment mindset.
Sunshine: Thanks Crystal. Those are really great suggestions and ways to get out of judgment of yourself and others.
