Sunshine: Are you speaking with intonation?
Crystal: Welcome, For the Love of Business. I’m Crystal.
Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.
Intonation? Intonation? Tone– I barely know how to say it, let alone what does it mean?
Crystal: Well, just think about the tone of when you are speaking and when you speak your voice goes up and down depending on what you are expressing. So, when you use intonation, you engage and better express emotion in your communication.
Sunshine: To emot– Okay.
Crystal: Hm-mm.
Sunshine: Okay. So, you want us to us fluctuations with your voice but do your best not to sound like a drone?
Crystal: Correct.
Sunshine: Or a robot, monotone?
Crystal: That’s right. Have you ever listened to someone who sounded like a robot or a drone?
Sunshine: Not for very long.
Crystal: You probably took a nap.
Sunshine: I can sleep with one eye open. Give us some tips on how to not do this or how to speak with intonation?
Crystal: Can do. Three easy ways to improve intonation. Number one, record yourself and then listen to that recording to see where you need to improve. Number two, stress words that you feel are important when communicating. Number three, listen and observe other people in how they speak and use intonation.
Sunshine: What’s your number one takeaway from today’s video? Leave us a comment. And thanks for watching.
